the model looks like a ape which represents us the homosepians with each model actions resembling an ape, and the copy probably is trying to avoid the PUN. Its just what I get from the first look probably it might differ.
I guess it's like an analogy to human evolution. Humans evolved from apes and their jeans evolved from "Basic Cut", promoted in this ad... I guess. Or maybe I'm out of this?
I guess it has to do with the appearance of the models used in the campaign (to me they look a little bit like various verions of "early man"). Hence; these are examples of "Basic men" and Wrangler´s slogan says "Basic Cut". They want to tell us that these jeans/denims last a looong time...
WOW. Some of us really take ads SO seriously. I like these ads although I think the Photoshop work could have been better. My first thought was that neanderthals are rough and barbaric. Therefore, their jeans must be tough and well constructed. But really I'd rather see a neanderthal in an ad than a person. If the ad were for Toughskins would more ad folk approve of this ad?

Funny how some people does look like these monkies in real life. Try middle east hahahaha. It made me feel as though Singapore limited a man face structure to a science book.

The idea is really simple. It's a "basic" cut, and you see "basic" men wearing it.
These guys look like cavemen.
I like it!

Basic cut as in back to basics!
Back to the neanderthal-men!
It's a pretty crummy idea I guess...
I think is about today's men compared with the cavemen or stone age men. "Basic Cut"...

to be worn since the time of neanderthals?
maybe neanderthal men wear it too...
It seems men are shown during primitive times during the ape-to-man transition. Maybe to hint basic.
Not a big idea, i think.
I think they are like primitive men
The basic cut is the classic, the original, the first, like primitives

Hello, I think "basic" was intended to mean "prehistoric", as in the photos, the guys look like Neanderthal´s.
Excuse my bad english.
Gerardo from Argentina
I think it refers to the most basic human people: neanderthals. Basic and simple, like the jeans.
But I don't think it's funny. As usual, it lies in the eye of the viewer...
It's connecting the word 'basic' with Neanderthal man - or basic man, if you will. Did I put that down rather awkward?
The model is depicted as Neanderthal Man. Hence 'basic' cut. Too much ad wank.
anyway this ad won a bronze award for its category at the Singapore Creative Circle Awards 2006.
dumb ads
I love it! it's simple and really fresh. Think it should have won more than just a bronze at the Creative Circle Awards.
